What to Look for on the Label

Most olive oil labels tell you very little. Here's what actually matters – and how Kasandrinos measures up.

A Harvest Date, Not Just a Best-By Date

A Harvest Date, Not Just a Best-By Date

If there's no harvest date, the brand probably doesn't want you to know how old the oil is. Kasandrinos prints a harvest date and lot number on every bottle.

Polyphenols and acidity are the two markers that indicate quality and freshness. Rather than asking you to trust the label, we publish our Certificates of Analysis openly.

Most Olive Oil Isn't What You Think

Here's what separates a genuinely fresh, single-source oil from the standard alternatives.

Not all olive oil is created equal. Most supermarket bottles don't carry a harvest date, aren't independently tested, and contain a fraction of the polyphenols found in genuinely fresh oil.

At 917mg/kg – up to 10x more than most grocery store oils – the difference shows up in the flavor, the freshness, and the health benefits. Higher polyphenols mean:

More antioxidants
Greater freshness
Better stability
That signature peppery finish

At 917mg/kg of independently tested polyphenols, Kasandrinos sits well above what most olive oils – even premium ones – ever reach.

The average grocery store oil comes in at 100-200mg/kg. The gap is mostly down to when the olives are harvested, how quickly they're pressed, and how long the oil sits before it reaches you.

Polyphenols are what give fresh olive oil its peppery finish, its antioxidant content, and its shelf stability. They're also what most commercial oils have lost by the time you open the bottle.

At 917mg/kg, you're getting oil that still has everything intact – the flavor, the nutrition, and the character that comes from olives pressed within 24 hours of harvest.

Frequently Asked Questions

Need more information? You can find it here.

How should I store my oil?

Keep it in a cool, dark place away from the stove to preserve its nutrients. The dark glass bottle does a lot of the work, but direct heat and sunlight will shorten the shelf life of any olive oil, so a cupboard or pantry is ideal.

What is the shelf life?

Kasandrinos has a shelf life of 24 months from the harvest date printed on your bottle. Because it's high in polyphenols and stored in dark glass, it holds its quality better than most oils – but like all olive oil, it's best used within 6 months of opening.

Can I cook with this oil?

Yes. It works well for sautéing, roasting, and general cooking, as well as drizzling and dipping. For very high-heat cooking, a neutral oil may be more suitable – but for most everyday cooking, Kasandrinos handles it perfectly.

Is it really 100% Greek?

Yes. Every bottle comes from family farms in Laconia, Greece, pressed from Koroneiki and Athinolia olives grown on the same land the Kasandrinos family has farmed for generations. It's not blended with oils from other regions or countries.

What do the certifications mean?

Kasandrinos is USDA Organic certified, meaning the olives are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers. It's also Non-GMO verified. On top of that, every batch is independently tested by a third-party lab for purity, acidity, and heavy metals – and the results are published openly on our transparency page.
